OCRA's Tribute to the Inventors of Radio-Electronics (a work in progress):
 | LEE DE FOREST (1873 - 1961)  An American inventor who held over 180 patents, he is most favorably remembered for creating the “Audion” by adding the third element, the grid, to Fleming's “valve” vacuum tube, which enabled it to amplify and oscillate, thus greatly enhancing the sensitivity of receivers and enabling transmitters to more easily send voice communication.  This was a key element that helped “wireless” become “radio.”

 | About our artist:  Ian Johnson is a very creative and talented 13 year-old born in Orange County who excels at various forms of fine art.  He's an actor who has several appearances with the Orange Community Players under his belt.  His main interest is drawing, however, and his goal is to become an artist at Pixar Studios.   The first set of drawings that Ian has done for the Orange County Radio Amateurs are his first published works, and OCRA is honored to be the chosen vessel for Ian's artwork to be premiered to the world. |
