The Original OCRA "Ohm's Law" Cup:
OCRA Ohms Law CupThe photo on the left is of the original OCRA "Ohm's Law" Cup, which was found in a thrift store for 25¢.  Cost was a big factor in the purchasing decision, so it fit the bill perfectly!

In May 2005, this Cup was first presented to an outstanding OCRA member at one of the Saturday morning breakfasts:  Peter Pielak KI4GWB, then a young teenager, distinguished himself by volunteering to act as ARES Net Control Operator when the regularly scheduled Net Control Op was incapacitated.

The New OCRA Cup:
New OCRA Ham of the Month It was then that we had the beautiful new OCRA "Ham of the Month" Cup (photo left) custom made by The Sign Man of Baton Rouge.  The enthusiasm that club members were showing over the idea of an award cup warranted investing in something more becoming.  Rick The Signman worked with us via email to insure that the new cup would be of as high a quality as possible, and it was gorgeous!  Upon its receipt, the original cup was honorably discharged from official service and now lives in retirement at the K3VSA QTH.

In May of 2007, the new OCRA Cup was first presented to Dan Eddleman KR4UB in recognition of his dedication to keeping our club's repeaters as top of the line.

The Case:
Cup and Case Soon after that, OCRA member and fine woodworker John Forrest KI4QXO, now a "Silent Key," donated to OCRA a masterpiece presentation case he'd personally created from walnut, a case in which the OCRA Cup could safely live.  The Case (see photo below) is a work of art in itself, and the Cup and Case enhance each other perfectly.

Here are the presentation rules for The OCRA Cup:
1.  The current recipient transfers possession of The Cup to whomever (s)he considers to be the most deserving OCRA Club Member.  At the presentation, the current recipient will explain to all why the new recipient was so honored.
2.  The current recipient cannot transfer The Cup back to the Club Member from whom (s)he received it.
3.  Transfer of The Cup will normally be done during the first quarter of the month at some Club event, such as the monthly Club meeting or the Saturday morning breakfast.
The New OCRA Cup was so admired that many OCRA members ordered their own OCRA Cups (with their own callsigns on them instead of "Ham of the Month," of course!). You can now order your own personalized OCRA Cup by clicking here.
